Built my engine in the Army. Life got busy and I let it deteriorate for two and a half years as other priorities took over. Now I'm taking it further than it's ever been — three races, nine months, follow my journey.
A man somewhere between 25 and 45 who was in good shape once and let it slide — not through any collapse, just through life getting more serious and the calendar filling up. Nobody tells you you’ve slipped. You quietly stop finding out.
I’m not going to tell you to grind harder or get up at four. The question I care about is whether you can be in the best shape of your life at thirty-five — on a real schedule, with a job and people who depend on you — and whether getting there makes you better at the things that outrank it. A better husband, father, son, brother, and friend. A better follower of Christ.
The training is the easy part to write down. The rest is why it’s worth doing.

West Point, Ranger School, Selection, a national championship — and what happens when nobody is keeping score any more.
